Temporary Warehouse and Loading Bay Canopy

The requirement

With the acquisition of their new site in Grays, Essex, our client required two buildings to be constructed to serve as a storage warehouse and a loading bay canopy to facilitate the expansion and growth of their business.
Significant clearance was undertaken by the client to completely transform the site. To avoid delays our structures needed to be built during this phase of development which presented a numerous problems.
New groundworks, concrete pads and drainage had to be designed into the programme for works, restricted access around the structure with plant, machinery, cranes and then of course the ever-present challenge of very poor weather and scheduling delays related to the evolution of the site.

The Fews Solution

Fews supplied a 20m x 70m steel walled building with a pillow roof for the storage warehouse and a 15m x 25m structure for the loading bay canopy. A mixture of trapezoidal non-insulated steel sheet walling and 40mm insulated sandwich panel steel walling were used to eave height and all built on an 8m leg to give the necessary height for racking and vehicle access.
Three 5m wide x 7m high roller shutter doors were re-purposed and fitted, with a further 4m high roller door connecting to the loading bay, plus three personnel doors. The structure was sealed to the concrete pad to prevent water ingress and flashings installed to finish the look of the structure.
To ensure the smooth development of the site we provided on site project management throughout the build and planning stages and advised on groundworks, drainage, scheduling, and design options.
