Fews are in the process of upgrading its vehicle fleet to include ever more sustainable options. The latest upgrade is the purchase of a Volvo FH Aero tractor unit.
The Volvo FH Aero tractor unit is a modern, aerodynamic version of the standard Volvo FH, specifically optimized for long-haul operations with improved fuel efficiency, driver comfort, and cutting-edge technology. Here are the key benefits the vehicle brings to the Fews fleet:

- Aerodynamic Design: The sleeker cab with integrated features (e.g., camera mirrors, sloped roof, smooth lines) reduces drag, improving fuel economy by up to 5–10% compared to standard FH models.
- I-Save Technology: Combines a turbo-compound engine, advanced software, and fuel-optimized components to reduce consumption.
- Predictive Cruise Control (I-See): Uses GPS and topography data to optimize gear shifting and speed, minimizing unnecessary acceleration.

This investment is part of a strategic programme to make the Fews operation amongst the most sustainable in the UK, and includes the acquisition of electric vehicles, sustainable energy through biomass and solar, efficient processes and storage systems. Future plans include acquiring more efficient vehicles, and monitoring of the complete supply chain to bring the company in line with Scope 3 ambitions.
