Purpose-Built Battery Exchange Facility for a Welsh Manufacturer
When a manufacturing business in Wales needed to expand its electric forklift operations, it faced a familiar challenge: where to safely and efficiently manage battery exchange for a growing fleet. With limited space in the existing facility and no time to spare for a lengthy construction project, the customer turned to Fews Temporary Buildings for a fast, reliable solution.
The Requirement
The customer needed a dedicated, purpose-built structure to serve as a battery exchange facility, a space where forklift batteries could be safely swapped, charged, and stored without disrupting the main production environment. Given the operational demands of battery handling, the building needed to be robust, well-insulated, and fitted with wide, fast-opening access points to accommodate vehicle movement throughout the day.
Our Solution
Fews Temporary Buildings designed and installed a 250m² structure, measuring 10m wide by 25m long with a 5m eave height, giving the customer ample working space and vehicle clearance. To protect the facility’s contents and maintain a stable internal environment, the building was fitted with thermo-insulated roofing and insulated sandwich panels across the walls and gable triangles helping regulate temperature, which is an important consideration for battery storage.
Operational efficiency was built into every detail. Two dual fast-action doors, each approximately 4.8m x 4.0m, were installed to allow quick, smooth access for forklifts entering and exiting during battery changeovers, minimising downtime. A single pedestrian door was also included for safe staff access separate from vehicle traffic.
To ensure the building was fully weatherproofed and finished to a high standard, the installation included L flash ground flashing along with guttering and downpipes, protecting the structure and surrounding area from water ingress and run-off.

The finished facility gave the manufacturer a dedicated, insulated, and secure space for battery exchange improving workflow efficiency and supporting the safe operation of their growing electric forklift fleet, all delivered with the speed and flexibility that Fews Temporary Building solutions are known for.
